Description
Rome, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. A finely carved, ancient marble torso clad in a voluminous garment which drapes around the neck and cascades down the body. The figure's right arm extends outward, perhaps indicating some action or combat, or that the figure was part of an ensemble. Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: 7-1/8" (18.1 cm) x 6-1/4" (15.9 cm) at widest.
Provenance: Ex-private New York, NY collection acquired in 1985; ex-private Richard Wagner collection, Cape Cod, MA, acquired 1970's.
