Description: This pastel on paper painting depicts a relaxed young man in New Orleans, practicing his trumpet for a small dog. Titled, "Audience of One".
History: Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1913, Herman Schreiber graduated from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts in 1934. An artist who used pastels exclusively, he was a disciple of the “School of Ultra Realistic Painting.†He created his pictures delicately and meticulously rendering the final products, which capture both images and emotions. His landscapes, portraits, and figurative works are often mistaken for actual photographs.During his lifetime, Herman exhibited his work in galleries and museums in New Jersey where he won many awards including First Place at the South Orange Annual Art Show, Bloomfield College, and Montclair State College exhibits. He moved to Delray Beach, FL in the fall of 1987 and became a member of the Delray Art League from 1988 – 1995. He exhibited in shows at Old School Square and other Delray sites and won numerous Blue, Red, and White Ribbons. In 1994 &1995 his work was in the 55th & 56th Annual Juried Exhibitions at the Society of Four Arts in Palm Beach.
