Description
An excellent Zapotec avian vessel from Mexico, ca. 100 – 500 AD. It is 9 in long and depicts a bird in flight, most likely a Muscovy duck. The wings and tail feathers re nicely detailed and the entire piece is heavily encrusted with mineral deposits. Ex Schultz collection. Cf. Boos 'Ceramic Sculptures of Ancient Oaxaca', figures 443 & 455.
