Description
Africa, Mali / Niger, Bura-Asinda-Sikka culture, ca. 3rd to 11th centuries CE. One of the finer of this variety of clay heads we have seen! Long neck with 4 levels of added/ punched necklaces, head slightly tilted back, mouth open as if singing, ears, nostrils and mouth are deep depressions in the clay, the eyes, nose and hair in high relief. Original red/brown pigment still covers the face and portions of the neck. A very fine example! Custom base. Size: 5" H (12.7 cm)
