Ancient Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A large and impressive iron adze or axe head, with a long oval eye for attaching the handle, the blade with a thick butt end. Its face gracefully flares to resolve in a broad cutting edge intended for some serious carpentry work! A remarkable example from the ancient Romans in the esteemed collection of the late John Piscopo, a most respected ancient weaponry expert. Size: 7.25" L x 3" H (18.4 cm x 7.6 cm)
