Description
Civil War 1850 Foot Officers' Sword and French-Made Leather Officer's Bag Attributed to 2nd Lieutenant John B. Lebkicker, Company B, Pennsylvania 79th Infantry. John Lebkicker enlisted on September 5, 1861 and mustered into B Company of the 79th Pennsylvania. He mustered out on July 12, 1865, in Washington, D.C. The lot includes: (1) 1850 Foot Officers' sword, 30.5" blade etched with floral and patriotic designs and bearing a Schulyer, Hartley & Graham retailer's mark. Lacks scabbard. Most of the gilt is absent from the hilt and it's a bit loose on the blade, otherwise good condition. (2) His lightly tooled leather bag measures about 11" x 8", and features a brass closure system. The bag exhibits honest wear from use and though lacking the leather carrying strap, is in generally very good condition.
