Description
Fine Quality and Condition American Silver Hilted Small Sword. Measuring 36 3/4" overall with a 30 1/4" unmarked triangular blade exhibiting a mostly smooth and gray patina with areas of dark staining. Blade retains the original red wool washer. The silver hilt has an eagle with outstretched wings engraved on all the faces of the counterguard, pommel, and ricasso. The knuckle bow is engraved with scrolls, a face and the makers mark "DS" in an oval cartouche. The hilt is in excellent condition save for a few small dents in the pommel. The original brown leather scabbard in incised with lines running along its face, a series of crossed lines at the mounts and exhibits tight stitching and minor crazing. The silver throat is engraved with the initials "EJB", believed to be Jonas Bonk of New York. The silver center ring mount and drag are present and match the throat.
