Dated New York, 9 December 1800: "Sir, Herewith will be delivered to you Copy of an injunction bill and also an affidavit made by the defendants. I have thought that the matters complained of are so utterly frivolous that the injunction would be dissolved on handling of the bill and I have subjoined the affidavit merely to show the views of both parties". "No affidavit is sent of.......of any notice, as the granting of the court requires none in Cases of Injunctions.....previously issued. I have the honor to be your servt, A. Burr". With a lower postscript handing the document and letter "to the bearer", with an illegible holograph docket on reverse.
In this year, 1800, Burr ran for the U.S. Presidency with Thomas Jefferson; both receiving the same amount of electoral votes. Members of the House were left to determine the winner. Alexander Hamilton convinced the House that Jefferson was their man as President with Burr as his vice President. That started the conflict between the two, which ended up in a duel in 1804 with Burr shooting Hamilton to death.

Condition
An old pencil note on top of the letter “bot of Heise July 1912” C.” Reverse has a strip of old scrapbook paper remnants adhered across the top, couple of old (almost invisible) archival tape reinforcements on center fold, with a 1” separation in edge of lower fold, light edgewear, else very good.
