Description
Samson (French, founded 1873), circa late 19th century. Pair of vases in the Sevres style with bronze mounted vases with gadrooned rim above body decorated with charming hand painted figural courting scenes in idyllic garden setting within gilt accented medallions on pink ground. Vases with lion's head mounts on sides with drop rings, each vessel supported on circular foot surmounting metal octagonal base with beaded accent where meets foot. Marked on interior of each with blue double Louis mark indicating that the items were created by Samson. Approximate height 11.9", diameter of top 4".
Condition
Overall good condition. Both vases have oxidation to bronze and gilt loss to painted cartouches and foliage. There is some fading to pink ground surface and well as dirt residue. One vase with interior traces of old glue to the bronze mounted rim. The other vase has slightly bent bronze rim. One vase has a manufacturing flaw in the form of a small crease near bottom of neck as well as two circular holes, one of either side of the neck probably a miscalculation for the lion mask mounts.
