Description
LEISURE HOURS, watercolour, signed lower left. Visible: 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" / 19.1cm x 24.1cm. Framed: 15" x 17" / 38.1cm x 43.2cm. Born in Hampshire, Inglis Sheldon-Williams travelled to Canada with his mother in 1887 where they set up a homestead in South Eastern Saskatchewan. He returned to England to study at the Slade School of Art. Between 1899 and 1904, he travelled extensively in South Africa, India and Europe, producing drawings and watercolour illustrations that were published in various periodicals in London. He spent almost ten years following his marriage in 1904 in England, exhibiting regularly at the Royal Academy in London, the Paris Salon, and at a variety of other exhibitions in both London and Europe. He was an official Canadian war artist during the First World War.
