Description
Pre-Columbian, South America, Northern Peru, Chavin, ca. 1400 to 400 BCE. A lovely strand of beads carved from sodalite, one of the primary elements of lapis lazuli mined from the Andes and cherished since antiquity. The piece is comprised of thirty-five, hand-carved cylindrical-shaped beads of rich blue-violet hues and cream and brown-colored veining. Will be quite impressive when restrung! Nice workmanship and superb stone from this very early Pre-Columbian culture. Size: 23"L, beads range in size from 1/2" to 3/4"L.
