Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A playful sculptural rendering of a dog standing on all fours with perky ears and tail, a near-miniature vessel with a small upraised rim on its back. The piece retains signs of Nayarit artisan's negative resist decoration and is replete with manganese deposits. Size: 2-3/4" x 2-3/4".
Provenance: Ex-private Ketchum, ID collection acquired at major US or UK auction house or gallery between 1989 and 1999.
