15. Gold Dress Cane-Ca. 1850-Straight and slightly tapering 18 karat gold knob en quatre couleurs, ebony shaft and a metal ferrule. The knob is delicately engine turned with a wide panel of dots on circular lines framed on the top with an applied, blossomed laurel leaf band and on the bottom with integral and multiple embossed ring collars. Where the laurel leaf is fashioned in greenish gold, the individually designed blossoms are white and red, adding with the yellow one of the body to four different gold shades in a single piece. Nothing fails to please in this tasteful cane which exhibits several features unique to the legendary creations of Cazal, the most respected cane and parasol maker of his day and leading accessory provider to the Parisian Haute Volée. It survived intact and enjoys the added value of two clear French hallmarks.-M. Cazal was reputed for his elegant accessories and one-of-a-kind canes and umbrellas. He was a famous French manufacturer, who exhibited at the Great Exhibition and created the parasols for the Empress Eugenie. He patented a spring for parasols in France in 1839, these are found in most Cazal parasols. Cazal also wrote a book titled Umbrellas, Parasols and Walking sticks in 1844.-Gold is the most versatile of all precious metals.
