Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, ca. 550 to 850 CE. A very large and attractive cylinder! Slightly corseted in form, the lower section in brown slip, band of deeply carved glyphs just below the rim which was decorated in red/orange slip. Cups such as this were made for drinking coca - a bitter version of chocolate that we would probably not recognize today. Glyphs can probably be translated. Size: 9-1/2"H x 6-1/2" in diameter at rim.
