Magna Graecia, southern Italy, ca. 300 BCE. Sweet pottery askos in buff clay covered with red slip in the form of a swan - harking back to the Greek myth of Leda and the swan. Swan sits on short rounded foot, head bent forward, spout emerging from its chest. Size: 4-1/2"L x 3-1/8"H.
