Description
A Greek tanagra figure of a woman, c. 4th-3rd Century BC, beautifully formed, the woman standing tall with left arm on hip and draped in her gown. The folds of her gown are beautifully depicted and remnants of blue paint still remain. The back is molded flat as is consistent with tanagra figurines, H: 7 in (17.8cm). These figurines were made primarily in the Boeotian town of Tanagra, and most commonly depict real woman (sometimes men and boys) in everyday dress with familiar accessories. While many of these figurines were copied in the 19th C this piece is 100% genuine. Ex New York City private estate
