Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 100 CE. An expressive pottery female figure, sculpted with Chinesco stylings, in classic 'thinking' pose, with chin resting on folded arms supported by upraised left knee, nude with the exception of a loin cloth, ear ornaments, and armband, all in nicely burnished black and cream on red background. Size: 5-1/4" (13.3 cm).
Provenance: Ex-private Houston, TX collection acquired locally at auction or art gallery between 1983 and 1995.

Condition
Intact. Tiny chip to tip of nose. Normal surface wear and some pigment loss as shown. Wonderful manganese deposits. Overall excellent.
