Item Details
Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, ca. 7th Century BCE. A charming little mold-made pottery figure depicting the god Bes, protector of children. Pottery vessels featuring the image of Bes were quite common during this time in Egypt, but little is known of the role they played in daily life. This example is well-detailed with prominent facial features, fierce eyebrows, and a pot-belly complete with belly button. 3-3/4"H.
