Description

A good George III silver Neo Classical wine jug / ewer Thomas Heming, London 1773 The body of ovoid form with foliate swags draped oval classical oval medallions, the wide waisted fluted neck with undulating bead rim, hinged domed cover with stylised artichoke finial, raffia covered upright loop handle, on a pedestal foot with acanthus band on a base with incurved sides and Greek Key band, height 30cm, weight total 25.2oz. Footnotes: Provenance: With Mary Cooke Antiques Limited 2007 The Patrick and Mavis Walker Silver Collection Thomas Heming was appointed Principal Goldsmith to King George III in 1760 and was the first working goldsmith to hold this post since the early seventeenth century. An appointment which he held until 1782.
