Description
FRANCIS SPILSBURY I, ENGLISH GEORGE II STERLING SILVER BEER / WATER JUG, baluster form, featuring a short curved spout, an applied scrolled handle, and a round foot, side with probably later heraldry-type engraving of an eagle or bird-of-prey eating a fish or other animal, base with possibly period engraving of "H / S A / to G / E M". Base impressed with "F [pellet] S" maker's mark in a heart-shaped cartouche for Francis Spilsbury I and three hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a crowned leopard's head city mark for London, and a "T" date mark for 1734. Total weight: 33.37 ozt. Circa 1737. 8 5/8" HOA.

Good visual condition with wear, surface scratches, nicks, and scattered denting, spout with a 1/2" L split at proper top right edge and possibly having repair/s, handle with probable repairs at terminals and possible repair to one side, foot with sizable repair, probable other repairs including at rim and to sides of well.
