A grouping of mostly Civil War era articles including a CDV album with family photos (no soldiers); a clay pipe signed illegibly and also marked France, having a hand painted bowl in the form of a bearded man's head - very good condition - 6"L; a Meerschaum clay pipe in original case - missing stem; pipe with a carved dog's head bowl, missing stem; a carved pipe bowl only, in the form of a Native American chief; a small old bronze button - oriental motif, 18th/19th century; and a pair of eye glasses with worn frame, 19th century. Two hand made wooden articles belong to Civil War soldier Henry Dietrich. The first a folk art smoking pipe with burl ash bowl - paper label attached that reads "Made by a soldier of Civil War - 39th Garabaldi / Under - 1st Lieut. H. Dietrich" - very good original condition - measures 14"L; the second, a lignum vitae night stick with label attached that reads "H. Dietrich Sr. 1872" - 19"L. Both are in very good condition. Provenance: Found in a barn in Westchester County NY with other Civil War memorabilia included in this sale, most related to Lieu. Henry Dietrich who was a member of the 39th NY Infantry, probably the Garbaldi Guard in which there were 3 companies of German descent soldiers.
