Ronald Reagan
n.p., [March 17, 1981]
As President, Reagan Comments on His Ranch: "…I'm a little homesick…"
ANS
An autograph note signed with initials "RR" as President, written in black pen at the bottom of a typed letter by John W. Carpenter, Sheriff of Santa Barbara County, one page, 8.5" x 11", n.p., [March 17, 1981.] Fine condition.
Carpenter advises Reagan that there had been a significant amount of snow to the area near his ranch, and that he "…asked one of his Deputies assigned to Mountain Patrol to take some photographs to record the unusual amount of snow…". Reagan cordially responds: "…Thank you very much for the photos of the ranch. Lee tells me we got 8 inches and lost a lot of limbs of the Oak trees. You were very kind to do this and I'm most grateful. I'm also a little homesick and look forward to another weekend or even a day at the ranch. Please thank your deputy…".
Reagan's homesickness would continue for another two months, for it was not until May 22-26, 1981, that he and Nancy again visited Rancho de Cielo. John W. Carpenter (1929-2017) was sheriff of Santa Barbara County, California, from 1971 to 1990.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
