Description
A Fabergé Diamond-Set and Gold-Mounted Hardstone Figure of a Pink Cockatoo Fabergé, Workmaster Mikhail Perkhin, St. Petersburg, before 1899 2-3/8 x 0-7/8 x 1-1/8 inches (6.0 x 2.2 x 2.9 cm) 26 grams (gross) In original Fabergé presentation case. This standing Pink Cockatoo, with its humorous and naturalistically carved form, is an excellent example of Fabergé's earlier animal figures in hardstone from the Perkhin workrooms, and retains its original presentation case. The choice of pink quartz, carnelian, and diamonds to represent the pale plumage of the Australian Pink Cockatoo (Lophochroa Leadbeateri) is highly effective. Perkhin executed a number studies of parrots and cockatoos, showing them standing, in cages, or on perches.
