Grand Duke George Mikhailovich: An Imperial Fabergé Matte Green Enameled and Gem-Set Silver Bonbonnière Fabergé, Moscow, circa 1899-1908, with scratched inventory number 18930 0-1/2 x 2 inches (1.3 x 5.1 cm) 60 grams (gross) In original Fabergé presentation case. PROVENANCE: Purchased by Grand Duke George Mikhailovich, December 17, 1910, for 70 rubles. This pill box or bonbonnière was described in Russian as a "Small Bonbonnière silver enamel" and sold to Grand Duke George Mikhailovich on December 17, 1910 at a cost of 70 rubles. Perhaps intended as a Christmas gift, this box is evocative of Muscovite taste of the period, looking at 17th models for the production of a uniquely early 20th century object. An identical box, but in umber matte enamel was sold Sotheby's, New York, Russian Works of Art and Objects of Vertu, December 5, 1997, lot 351.
