Native American, Northwestern United States, Columbia River Plateau region, Nez Perce, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A large cornhusk bag finely woven or twined from hemp or cotton twine with a hide drawstring and twisted strap. The dyed cornhusks are embroidered over the surface in triangular shapes. The bucket shape is known as a "Sally bag," was used for gathering roots, medicinal plants, or other foodstuffs that were in season. The flexible baskets required a special full turn twining technique that almost died out in the 1970s. This one has signs of heavy use with an old repair patch on one side. Size: 8" Diameter x 13.5" H (20.3 cm x 34.3 cm)

Tearing and fraying to rim as shown. Some perforations and tears to body. Losses and fading to corn husk embroidery. Used with wear commensurate with heavy use / age. Old repair to body with hide patch.
