Civil War Confederate Mule Receipt
Receipt for ""2 Sorrel Mules"" sold to the Shelby Iron Co. of Alabama for $200 each plus $3.50 shipping by Rea & England of Selma, Alabama. Dated June 15, 1862. The Shelby Iron Co. played a major role in providing products for the Confederate government during the Civil War. Written in brown ink on typical blue-lined Confederate used paper. Interesting to note the high value placed on mules, essential in the manufacturing process. Good condition with two small holes through surface indicating company storage on two spikes, plus small tear at top near center and cancellation stamping through paper near center. 6-1/4"" wide by 3"" high
