Footnote:
Catherine Greville (1617-1679) was the wife of Robert Greville (1607-1643), 2nd Baron Brooke of Beauchamps Court, a British Parliamentarian who was killed during the Civil War by a Royalist sniper at the Siege of Lichfield in 1643. After his death, Catherine commissioned an unknown number of portraits depicting her in mourning. A similar example to one on offer is currently held in the collection of Warwick Castle, and another was sold at Christie's in 2011.
Kimbolton Castle is a country house in Kimbolton, Huntingdonshire, England. It was the final home of King Henry VIII's first wife, Catherine of Aragon. Originally a medieval castle but converted into a stately palace, it was the family seat of the Earls and Dukes of Manchester from 1615 until 1950.

Condition
Framed 19 x 15.5 in. Overall minor surface soiling, minor scuffs, and scattered spots. Panel slightly bowed. Varnish uneven and yellowing in areas. Minor pigment craquelure. Scattered restorations evident under UV light, with several areas of inpainting.
