Description
This is a large, scarce aerial photo reconnaissance folding map of Pasadena. This methodology was developed during the First World War to obseve troop positions and movements. The map is believed to be the earliest commercially produced aerial map of a major city along with the one of Newark, NJ from the same year. The Photomap was taken from an altitude of 8,000 feet. Streets are named with printed overlay and there is a street index. The Rose Bowl Stadium is shown under costruction. The map was produced as a promotional piece for the First National Trust and Savings Bank of Pasadena, and three branches are marked with arrows. Verso shows text about the bank, Pasadena and the surrounding area, and ten aerial photographs. OCLC lists only three examples, and one auction sale has been recorded.
