Description
This is a highly detailed aerial map of part of the Northeast coast of Papua New Guinea taken by the 69th Engineer Topo. Company on 3 Jan., 1943. It shows Japanese positions, huts, as well as roads, plantations, etc. Papua New Guinea was invaded by the Japanese in early 1942, and the efforts to retake it by primarily US and Australian forces started soon after and lasted until the end of World War 2.
