A LACQUER SUZURIBAKO (WRITING BOX) Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century Rectangular, bearing a roiro-nuri ground decorated with a pair of deer and autumn maples in colored lacquer, raised in relief, the interior black lacquer scattered with sparse hirame, with a removable support for an inkstone and water dropper, both now lost 8 7/8 x 6 1/2 x 1 1/2in (22.5 x 16.5 x 3.8cm) Footnotes: Published Stephen Little and Edmund J.
