Description
Miniature Japanese Writing Box (Suzuri-bako), Edo Period, the rectangular form decorated in hiramaki-e with a small empty boat moored to a green branch with applied green stone, with an applied silvered moon in the sky, the interior nashiji, with inkstone, floriform gilt metal water dropper, lacquer brush with cover and ink bar. Provenance: Purchased at Christie's sale of Property from the Estate of Catherine Halff Edson, New York, September 14, 2011, lot no. 586.
Dimensions: 4 x 2.5 in.
Condition: Very good with minor wear as appropriate to age and use, gilding worn on water dropper, some brush hairs bent from opening and closing cover on brush.
