Description
A most unusual find, a silver signet-style ring with stylized initials ‘FC’ on the face, flanked by ‘1941’ and ‘Iraq’ on both sides of the shank. During World War II there were approximately 30,000 American troops and 65,000 U.S. civilians divided among camps and airstrips throughout Iraq, all part of the Persian Gulf Command (PGC). The PGC was part of the Russian ‘Lend-Lease’ program which delivered food, bombers and fighters, trucks, and other military vehicles to the Russians to fight the Germans. WITH: an original PGC shoulder patch. This exact ring appears on p. 230 in ‘German & Spanish Military Rings: A Historical Perspective’ by Stephen J. Shaw (Lancaster: Kollektor Press, 2021), and is accompanied by a copy of the book. Two pieces.
