Chinese Ming Dynasty JiaJing Blue and White Porcelain Lidded Box. The porcelain box is in a circular form, correspondence dome lid and there is a tongue at the outer rims for fitting the lid. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white color which contrast against blue color, depicted of many flying cranes through scrolling ruyi, flower bloom and auspicious ornament. The crane symbolizes longevity as well as wisdom. An embroidery of a crane formed part of the regalia of the top rank of Imperial officials, so can symbolize the wish for promotion to a high official position. A crane is often portrayed with a tortoise longevity or a deer longevity and riches.The Under-base bears a reign mark, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings.
