The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Noel Wiggins.

The present work is being offered from the collection of Richard and Elaine Lieberman who collected passionately as a couple for over four decades. They were born and raised in New York City, where they lived through the Great Depression and World War II. Californians by choice, the Lieberman's still considered themselves New Yorkers at heart. Seeing the rise of culture, commerce and power firsthand in 'the city that never sleeps,' they were inspired to collect works that reflected the American urban experience and multiculturalism.
Condition
The canvas has been strip lined and has been stretched over replacement stretcher bars. The paint surface is in good, clean condition. There is a small area of radial cracking visible in the upper left quadrant in the sky. There is a small area of widely spaced fine craquelure at lower center in the snow, above the bench. Upon inspection under ultraviolet light, there is fluorescence due to pigment and uneven varnish in the upper right corner which is original to the artist. There are no visibly apparent signs of inpainting or other forms of restoration.
