Description
This map highlights Indonesia, particularly the Spice Islands, and was crafted by R. Bonne and Raynal between 1775 and 1780. It is sourced from 'Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens', a significant work from the Age of Enlightenment featuring contributions from Diderot. Due to the controversial nature of the topics addressed in the publication"such as religion, commerce, slavery, and contemporary political and social issues"it was banned in France, leading to its publication in Geneva, Switzerland. The map is copperplate engraved and comes with guaranteed authenticity. It is in overall very good condition, measuring 14 1/2" x 9 1/2".f
