Description
This antique map, created by R. Bonne and Raynal between 1775 and 1780, offers a depiction of the colonial and early independent United States, along with Canada and Greenland. Notable features include fictional islands within Lake Superior, a fragmented depiction of Florida into islands, and fictional lakes and rivers suggesting the existence of the northwest passage. Part of "Histoire Philosophique et Politique des Etablissemens," a significant work from the Age of Enlightenment with contributions from Diderot, the map was published in Geneva, Switzerland, due to its banning in France. It addresses various social, political, and religious issues of the time. Crafted through copperplate engraving, this map is in overall very good condition, with authenticity guaranteed. It measures 14 x 10 1/2 inches and provides valuable insights into the geographical landscape of North America during the late 18th century, amidst the colonial and early independence era.
