Description
A hand-crafted Southwestern pottery jug or round pitcher by the Ute Mountain Tribe. Signed on bottom. The base of the jug is hand-painted with a stylized geometric design in black and burnt orange. Although decorative, the object was made with functionality in mind and could also be used for drinking or ceremonial purposes. The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe is one of three federally recognized tribes of the Ute Nation and are mostly descendants of the historic Weeminuche Band who moved to the Southern Ute reservation in 1897. Their reservation is headquartered at Towaoc, Colorado on the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation in southwestern Colorado, northwestern New Mexico, and small sections of Utah. From a private collection. Dimensions: 8.25"h x 7"dia. In exceptionally good vintage condition consistent with age.
