The canvas has a wax relining and the varnish is dirty and scuffed. The brown tones of the foreground, lower right, are a little worn and uneven.
Inspection under ultra-violet light is difficult as the varnish is quite reflective but it is possible to see: numerous small areas of restoration scattered throughout the sky, particularly upper right; numerous areas of restoration to the brown tones of the foreground, lower right (the largest being approximately 3x15cm., lower right corner); infilling to the figures and animals; a band of restoration along the left-hand half of the lower edge (approximately 4cm. at its widest); and possible old retouching to the buildings and trees of the middle distance. Further restoration cannot be excluded.
