Description
American. C. 1868. Walnut grips, nickeled steel and brass. This pistol was made by the Manhattan Firearm Company. The company was founded in 1856 by a group of New Jersey businessmen with the goal of taking advantage of Colt's patent for revolving firearms which was expiring in 1857. They went out of business circa 1868. Most of them were .31 calibre with 5 shot cylinders and various barrel lengths. This one closely resembles a Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver. Stamped, "Patented Dec 27, 1859", on barrel and "Manhattan Fire Arms Co., New Jersey", on top of barrel. Stamped, with serial numbers "16243" three times and once with "44663", to the underside of the grip. 4.75" x 12" x 1.5". From the Darryl Silver Collection.
