Description
English. C. 1860s-1870s. Marquetry dome top box. Walnut grip inlaid with silver cartouche. Engraved steel. This little percussion pistol is fitted with accoutrements in its original period marquetry dome top box was made by James Squires of England. This form is commonly called a muff pistol, something a lady would carry in her purse or muff. To load them the barrel is unscrewed from the frame with a barrel wrench. Inscribed, "DA", on silver plate on handle. Inscribed, "I. Squires, London", on the stock. Box: 5.75" x 8.25" x 5.75". From the Darryl Silver Collection.
Condition
Barrel wrench appears to be missing from the case. The surfaces of the metal components retain a small degree of the original finish. Minor stressline through the right side of the grip.
