Description
A matched pair of James Oxborrow flintlock muff pistols cleverly converted to percussion. As detailed in item two, Oxborrow lived and worked in Woodbridge, Suffolk England between the years 1823 - 1830. The 1 3/16" screw-off smoothbore barrels are .5O caliber and have Birmingham proof marks. Each muzzle has nice engraving around the edge. The overall length is 6.25". The frames are nicely engraved with flags, drums, shields etc. Overall, the metal hasn't any original finish. There are areas of light pitting scattered across the surface. The actions are tight on both and fully functional. Both hammers contain both notches and fully engage on half and full cock. Both pistols have the sliding safety bar in the rear of the hammer. Both are in working condition. The bag style walnut stocks have normal storage dings and have experienced some shrinkage preventing a close fit to the frame. I must stress at this time that although the values of these pistols will fall below that of Item 2 because of the conversion; it is worthwhile to study these guns to fully appreciate the skill required for the transformation to a more advanced ignition system. Very advanced in the execution and indicates these guns were carried and used over a period of time.
