Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller effectively gave birth to the slasher genre while shocking audiences by killing off its biggest star, Janet Leigh, 47 minutes into the film. Though controversial on release for its violence and sexual content, Psycho has since been recognized as a cinematic masterpiece.
