Description
THE LIFE OF BUFFALO BILL
One Sheet (27" x 42" )
Very Fine+ on Linen
Pawnee Bill Film Co., 1912
This gorgeous stone litho one-sheet is a historical artifact from the transitional era between the modern industrialized age of motion pictures and the age of the "Old West."
This poster is linen-backed with little to no visible touch-up work.
William F. Cody (a.k.a. Buffalo Bill) was one of the most colorful figures of the Old West. Before Cody went into show business, he had several occupations, including trapper, Colorado "Fifty-Niner," Pony Express rider, wagon master, stagecoach driver, Civil War soldier, and even hotel manager. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1872 for his role as a scout for the United States Army (1868-1872). Cody's Wild West Shows were an enormous success in the late 1880s and remained a popular subject in the early 1900s when this very early silent three-reeler was made.
This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, April 18th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on April 19th.
