Description
The Battleship Indiana Lying in the River off Grant's Tomb, New York.

The Battleship Indiana was a battleship of the United States Navy that served in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was named after the state of Indiana and was the lead ship of its class, which also included the Massachusetts and the Oregon.

The Indiana was commissioned in 1895 and served in the Spanish-American War of 1898, where it played a significant role in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba. It also served as a flagship during the war.

In 1907, the Indiana was modernized and became one of the first US battleships to be equipped with a modern fire control system. It also had its coal-fired boilers replaced with oil-fired ones, which greatly improved its range and endurance.

During World War I, the Indiana served in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, escorting convoys and providing gunfire support to Allied forces. It was also used as a training ship for naval gunners and midshipmen.>br>
In the interwar years, the Indiana was used for various purposes, including as a target ship for naval exercises and as a floating barracks for naval personnel. It was eventually decommissioned in 1924 and sold for scrap in 1924, marking the end of its service with the US Navy.

The Indiana was a significant ship in the history of the US Navy, serving in two major conflicts and being one of the first battleships to receive modern upgrades. Its role in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba helped to establish the US Navy as a world power, and its service in World War I demonstrated the importance of battleships in naval warfare.
