Description
William McKendree Snyder (Indiana, 1848 - 1930) 10 1/4" x 8 1/4" oil on canvas. Beech trees in Autumn. Signed, "W. McK. Snyder" lower right. Snyder was one of the earliest artists to paint in Brown County, Indiana. He specialized in dense forests, especially beech trees. He fought in the Civil War on the Union side, and reportedly survived Andersonville Prisoner-of-War camp. He studied in Cincinnati, New York, and Philadelphia with George Inness, Albert Bierstadt, and William Hont. A wonderful painting in original frame.
