Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Chihuahua region, Casas Grandes, Ramos Polychrome type, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel of charming form that depicts the head of a zoomorphic creature, perhaps a weasel or a bear. The creature exhibits perky eyes and ears, a tapered snout, and parted lips while the rest of the head is adorned in black and red triangles that spiral together. The remaining exterior surface area is densely adorned along the upper body with triangular, rectangular, and stippled motifs, and the base is unadorned. Size: 5" Diameter x 6.1" H (12.7 cm x 15.5 cm)

Provenance: Private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000.

Minor nicks and abrasions, with light pitting in scattered areas, and fading to pigment, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to zoomorphic features and painted motifs.
