Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Paquime / Casas Grandes, Ramos type, ca. 1150 to 1450 CE. A sizable pottery jar formed via the coil-and-scrape technique with a round but stable base, a spherical body with a tapered shoulder, and a flared rim. Highly burnished and presented in hues of red and black atop the beige ground, the vessel boasts intricate linear, stippled, and geometric motifs that flow around the undecorated base. The decorative style of this vessel belongs to the Ramos Polychrome group, which represents the pinnacle of achievement for Casas Grandes ceramics. Size: 6.6" Diameter x 5.3" H (16.8 cm x 13.5 cm)

Condition
Small chips and nicks to rim and body, with light abrasions and fading to pigment, and very light encrustations within body, otherwise intact and very good. A bulge on the side of the body was formed during its creation and is not evidence of any repair. Nice remains of painted decorations. Old inventory label beneath base.
