French Empire Bronze & Marble Mantel Clock, "The Reader"
early 19th century
depicting "The Reader" after a model by Jean-Andre Reiche (French, 1752-1817), the woman seated on an Empire armchair with a stack of books behind, and a table in front with an oil lamp and claw feet which the clockwork and front dial are mounted, French ebauche 8-day time and strike spring-driven movement with silk thread suspension, dial signed "A. Paris"
12 3/4 x 11 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches

Provenance: The Estate of Clive Godwin, Natick, Massachusetts
Condition
Very good overall condition with some light chips to marble, chips to edge of the dial, functions properly (15-minute test).
