ALS

An autograph letter signed by sitting 41st President George H.W. Bush (1924-2018) as "George Bush" on verso. June 7, 1989. [Washington, D.C.] Inscribed in black felt tip pen on a presidential correspondence card with an embossed gilt presidential seal at upper left. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified and graded MINT 9. A few letters show traces of smudging, else near pristine. The card measures 6.25" x 4.25" while the slab measures 10.125" x 6.625."
Bush autograph letters signed as president are uncommon, and this example features a top-notch signature.

In full:
"June 7, 1989
Dear Al,
I read your June 2 letter with keen interest - how nice about the church!
Greet seeing you over there.
Good luck in all that lies ahead.
Sincerely,
George Bush."

Alfred H. Kingon worked as a Wall Street investment adviser and financial magazine publisher before entering politics, serving as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce from 1983-1984. From 1985-1987, Kingon served as President Ronald Reagan's cabinet secretary. His political career culminated in a 2-year-long tenure as U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, from March 1987-June 1989.

The "over there" mentioned in our letter refers to President Bush's first trip undertaken to Europe, from May 26 - June 2, 1989, which included visits to Italy, the Vatican City, Belgium, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the United Kingdom. During this visit, President Bush would have seen Kingon, then serving the final days of his ambassadorial tenure.
