Nel gennaio 1956 pubblicò "La Révolution et les fétiches" in cui condannò il dogmatismo del Partito Comunista. Ciò portò alla sua immediata esclusione dal Partito a metà febbraio, poco prima dell'apertura del XX Congresso del Partito Comunista Sovietico. Il risultato fu una serie di articoli in cui Sartre, Hervé, Naville, si contrapposero sui temi politici del momento, sullo sfondo della situazione dell'URSS, della distensione, dei sionisti-trotskisti, ecc.In allegato il libro di Sartre "Situations, VII - Problèmes du Marxisme", in cui la NRF ha raccolto tutti i testi da lui pubblicati relativamente a "L'Affaire Hervé", in particolare "Le Réformisme et les Fétiches", articolo pubblicato nel febbraio 1956 in cui Sartre prende le difese di Hervé.

Pierre Hervé (1913-1993) was a communist, journalist (deputy director of L'Humanité), former member of the Resistance and professor of philosophy. In January 1956 he published "La Révolution et les fétiches" in which he condemned the dogmatism of the Communist Party.
